Finding a Job for the Holiday Season

by Chelsea Kaminski, Career Services Center Intern

Would you like to earn money and build your resume this winter break? Consider applying for seasonal employment! The Career Services Center can help you with your resume and cover letter. Here are a few tips to finding a job over winter break:
  • When you are asking about job opportunities or interviewing, smile! A positive attitude will help you land a seasonal job more than you think.
  • Be flexible. Prepare to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Where did you work in the summer? Contact your boss and see if they need extra help for the holiday season. The best part of working somewhere you previously worked is that the company already has your employment documents on file. This means you can start immediately!
  • Apply everywhere and be creative. Retail is of course a good place to start, but they’re not the only ones hiring. Try restaurants, hotels, department stores, toy stores, or a temp agency. Think outside of the box. Apply at a local ski resort or to be Santa’s helper at your mall.

If you have any questions about your resume and cover letter, feel free to stop by the Career Services Center! We have walk-in resume help from 1:00-5:00pm Monday-Friday.
