Ian Wharton - Intern of the Month for March, 2013

The Career Services Center would like to congratulate senior Ian Wharton as March's Intern of the Month. Ian is a Sports Management major and completed his internship with The Cleveland Cavaliers. Ian says, "My internship with the Cleveland Cavaliers led to many amazing and unique experiences and assisted my personal and professional growth more than I thought was possible. Between the people I met and the skills I gained, this experience has changed my life!" Ian is also involved with the Tau Kappa Epsilon, Student Senate, and Sports Management Club. Congratulations, Ian!

Science and Technology Career Fair Opportunities - Week of 4/14-4/20

Attention Ashland University science and technology majors! Ashland University students and recent graduates are invited to three career fairs next week that might help match your skills with opportunities.

If you attend these events, please make sure to dress to impress and take many copies of your resume. Register in advance to avoid any problems at the door (registration links are below). Feel free to visit the Career Services Center before the fairs to prepare specific strategies for making a good impression at the fair.

Biomedical & Pharma Career Fair

Monday, April 15th, 2PM-6PM at TechColumbus in Columbus, Ohio
Thursday, April 18th, 2PM-6PM at the Tri-C Advanced Technology Training Center in Cleveland, Ohio

BioOhio will host Ohio Biomedical & Pharma Career Fairs in three regions, featuring top employers in the biotech, pharmaceutical, R&D, and medical device industries.

Linking IT Talent to Opportunity

Wednesday, April 17th, 1PM-5PM at Independence Civic Center in Independence, Ohio

Presented by The Greater Cleveland Partnership (GCP), the Northeast Ohio Software Association (NEOSA), and the Northeast Ohio Council on Higher Education (NOCHE), this event will bring a number of technology companies and organizations in need of IT talent together for a free career fair and networking event.

Join Us for Appetizers & Answers on Wednesday, April 3!

Are you getting everything together for the upcoming summer and fall semesters? Whether you’re searching for summer jobs and internships, or planning ahead for the future, you might be feeling the pressure of having to make sure that you have some plan together. It can be stressful and confusing as you try to navigate your way through solidifying some decisions and what the next steps are. Luckily, the Career Services Center has put together an event that can help you with any and all of the above. Not only will we provide direction, but we will also provide some yummy appetizers that you can dig into while you’re here!

Dip into web resources
Learn all about the different resources that we have for students on our website. We can show you how to find exactly what you need, and help you to navigate through them so that you can use them in the future. Some examples are Career Connect for students seeking employment, handouts that can be used when writing professional documents, and tools that can help anyone who is unsure about their career path.

Chip away at resumes and cover letters
If you’re interviewing or applying for jobs and internships, you want to make sure that your resume and cover letter stand out from the rest. We’re here to help make sure that you have all of the elements needed and they are above and beyond what potential employers expect. Highlighting your experience is important and can sometimes be tricky, so let us assist you in making your resume all that it can be.

Which piece of career planning pie do you need to focus on?
Do you feel like you need help finding a job but you don’t know what to ask? This will help us help you determine what areas need improvement and what you could be doing to proactively build a strong foundation going into the professional world. Whether it might be your resume, interviewing tips, job search, or anything else that you can think of, we can point you in the right direction.

Sweeten your success by using the CSC often
We want to see the students succeed, and by starting out freshman year coming into our office and utilizing the resources that are available to all Ashland University students, we can make sure you are on the right track to get where you want to be by the time you graduate. Every visit is beneficial, and the more that you use our office, the better prepared you will feel in all professional endeavors. Set up appointments with staff, or stop by and meet with a Career Assistant!
