December 2016 Intern of the Month

Alexis Lowry has been chosen as our December 2016 Intern of the Month.  Alexis is currently a senior studying hospitality management & marketing.  She worked this past summer with Weymouth Country Club as a Marketing Intern.  Alexis will be graduating in May, and has gained so much professional work experience from her internship over this past summer that she will be able to take with her when she graduates.

During her internship, she was responsible for daily tasks which included creating a weekly newsletter and designing marketing materials for various events.  While she performed these duties, she was assigned two large projects.  Her first project took a lot of diligence and organization as she assisted in a lot of ways with the club's first ever Jazz, Wine & Art Fest.  Her main responsibility was to contact local artisans as the event approached in hopes to sell their work and create social media posts in order to bring in more people.  During the event, Alexis created vendor maps and information about the wines being served to the guests.  Her second project was similar in that she created marketing material and contacting people for participation.  However, at the event she was responsible for collecting donations and recording how many guests were in attendance.  There is a lot of value in seeing first hand how an event turns out when you put so much time and effort in planning and organizing important events.  Alexis was given a lot of responsibility but did what it took to make sure she was successful.

This internship did a lot for Alexis as far as teaching her the practical skills she would  need to be successful in the field.  Her advice to students is to get as much experience as you can before you graduate.  Internships allow you to apply classroom content in the real world, which is very important for situational awareness and problem solving.

"My internship not only helped me grow as a business professional, but as an individual.  The skills I learned during my time as an intern will be carried with me for the rest of my professional career.  I know that I have chosen the right career path & this internship was just the first step of an exciting future in the hospitality and marketing fields."
